Peer Navigator – HIV Support Services (Meanjin/Brisbane)

Queensland Positive People (QPP) are seeking a Peer Navigator to provide client-centred support for people living with HIV, who are experiencing challenges including barriers to HIV care and treatment.

- Full-time (38 hours) Monday – Friday with some weekend work required.
- Work includes outreach, regular team connections and the promotion of work/life balance.

About the role
As a Peer Navigator, you will:
- Use your lived experience of HIV and apply planned support methods to work with those either newly diagnosed with HIV or those re engaging in treatment and care.
- Apply holistic, client-centred and empowerment approaches to work with your clients in identifying needs in peer education and providing practical assistance to navigate the healthcare system.
- Assess social determinant barriers and provide referrals to QPP’s Treatment Support Program where necessary.
- Participate in care coordination to ensure client goals are met and provide peer linkage, ensuring clients’ retention in care.
- Participate in social support activities which can occur outside regular business hours.
Essential requirements
- You must be a person living with HIV to apply for this role.
- Minimum Certificate III in community or health services or be working towards a similar or higher-level qualification is required.
- Hold a current QLD Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
- Provide a National Police Check of 6 months currency or evidence that a check has been applied for.
- Provide a valid Driver’s license with no restrictions.
- Willingness to work outside normal business hours as required.
- Ability to travel intra and inter-state as required.

About the opportunity
The Queensland Positive People Board is in need of company secretarial support and is searching for an enthusiastic volunteer who may wish to gain experience working alongside the Board President who is an experienced CoSec and Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia. This is a great opportunity to learn hands on skills from an experienced professional while working alongside passionate Board members and management who constantly seek to innovate and improve their services to the PLHIV community. We are vibrant, fun, innovative and energetic in everything we do. You will also gain extensive knowledge of public health funding.

- Setting Board and Committee Agendas
- Paper collation and review
- Minute Taking
- AGM preparation
- Statutory filing support
- Supporting the Board President
About QPP
Queensland Positive People Inc. (QPP) was established in 1989 as a not for profit peer-led community organisation. QPP is now a multi-disciplinary team committed to improving the quality of life of people living with HIV (PLHIV) and reducing new infections of HIV and STIs across Queensland. This is achieved through a number of initiatives including peer support, community engagement, peer navigation, case management, HIV and STI testing initiatives, legal support, policy development, advocacy and research.
The organisation provides services across Queensland and currently employs 38 staff located in Brisbane (primary office and clinic located in East Brisbane and Fortitude Valley), Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and on the Sunshine and Gold Coasts.
