There have been recent updates to the COVID-19 vaccination roll-out in Queensland that are important for our community to know.
All people over the age of 50 are eligible for the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. This means that anyone, regardless of their occupation or health status can access the COVID-19 vaccination if they are aged over 50.
If you are under 50, Queensland Health is also making the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine available for eligible people under 50. This vaccine has been recommended for people under 50, however will not be available from GP clinics and will only be available from some hospital vaccination clinics. This is because the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine requires complex cold storage facilities that are only available at larger hospitals.
People under 50 with “underlying medical conditions” are eligible for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine – this includes people with HIV. If you are interested in getting the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine but are not sure if you are eligible, please use the National Eligibility Checker to confirm your eligibility.
People seeking to access the vaccine will need to provide proof of eligibility – this can be through the use of the COVID-19 vaccination – Eligibility declaration form. This form can be filled out by an s100 prescriber or GP to demonstrate a person’s eligibility without the need to disclose any additional medical information including your HIV status
